Siegel Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2022

The Siegel High School Hall of Fame was created to honor:

  • Those individuals who have excelled as athletes while students at Siegel High.
  • Those individuals who have excelled as coaches while at Siegel High.
  • Those individuals or staff members who have been ardent supporters of the Siegel High School athletic program.
  • Those very special teams that have performed extraordinarily well bringing pride to the school and the community.

Siegel High School is proud to announce our Siegel Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2022.  The hall of fame banquet and ceremony will be held on Wednesday, October 12 at 6:00 in the main gym.  This event is open to the public and tickets can be purchased by clicking the link below.

Shanice Cason - Basketball

Shanice Cason is a 2011 graduate of Siegel.  She played basketball 4 years for the Stars. Shanice was named All Tournament, All District, and Tournament MVP during her time at Siegel. She led her team in assists, steals, and charges and was selected as McDonald’s All-Star Nominee.

After graduating from Siegel, Shanice attended Middle Tennessee State University and played 4 years for the Lady Raider Women’s Basketball team. She was named Defensive player of the Week, was top 5 in assist/turnover ratio, and was named to the All-Freshman Team in her time with the Lady Raiders.

After graduating Shanice coached college basketball for a year at Trevecca Nazarene University. She now has a career at Enterprise Holdings where she is a Vehicle Acquisition Coordinator.

When asked what here favorite moment at Siegel was Shanice says, “It is hard to narrow it down to just one.  My senior year we just decided that we were going to have fun and enjoy each other. That freshman class that came in woke us all up. They were full of energy and wanted our spots, so practice was fun yet competitive. Once coach Bush got so mad at us and told us to leave and go home. Everyone wanted to leave but we all stayed. Later we all laughed in the locker room because Coach Bush was stuttering because he never got mad. That year, win or lose, we had fun.”

 

Gerald Howse Jr. - Football

Gerald Howse Jr. is a 2010 graduate of Siegel. He played both football and ran track while he attended Siegel.  His senior year, Howse rushed for 1,072 yards and nine touchdowns and earned All-Region, All-County, and All-Midstate honors at Siegel. When he was done playing, he was Siegel’s all-time leading rusher in school history.

After graduating from Siegel, Gerald attended Northeast Oklahoma A&M College where he played two seasons and was a first-team all-conference selection. Howse then moved on to the NCAA Division I level with two seasons at Georgia State. After earning his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Georgia State, he earned his master’s degree in sports administration. He was a team captain at both schools. Howse was also active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Oklahoma Baptist, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, and Northwestern State.

As a coach, Howse spent a year at Oklahoma Baptist, coaching the running backs and tight ends. He left to take the same position at his JUCO alma mater, Northeast Oklahoma A&M. While there, he coached two All-Americans Darwin Thompson and Jace Sternberger who went on to NFL careers. Howse was also named the NJCAA Top Assistant Coach in 2017. Howse moved to Northwestern State, overseeing a rushing attack that ran for 2,700 yards and 20 touchdowns over two seasons, breaking 14 school records in the process.

Before his passing, Gerald was hired as the running backs coach and co-special team’s coordinator at Tennessee Tech University.

 

Stephen Hurt -  Basketball

Stephen Hurt is a 2011 graduate of Siegel. He played 4 years on the Star’s Basketball team. While at Siegel, Hurt was named to the 2010 and 2011 Region All-Tournament Team and was selected as 2011 District All-Tournament MVP and 2011 Region All-Tournament MVP. Hurt was named to the TSSAA 2011 State All-Tournament team.

After graduating from Siegel, Hurt spent two seasons at Lipscomb University where he was redshirted as a true freshman in 2011-12 before playing in 29 games as a redshirt freshman in 2012-13. He helped the Bisons to a 12-18 record in 2012-13 with a 7-11 mark in conference play. He was named the 2012-13 Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year, becoming the first Lipscomb player to earn the honor. He was also selected to the league’s All-Freshman Team. Hurt was four times named the league’s Rookie of the Week and selected as the A-Sun “Crons Achiever of the Month” for December as the top performer in the Atlantic Sun as voted on by the fans. Hurt was rated as the No. 2 scoring and rebounding freshman center in the nation.

Hurt moved on to play one season at Northwest Florida State Junior College in Niceville, Fla., during the 2013-14 season. The school finished the season with a 22-6 overall record and a No. 21 ranking in the NJCAA Top 25 poll. He was one of four players to sign with Division I teams. Hurt was named honorable mention All-Panhandle Conference, selected as the Florida Junior College Player of the Week on Dec. 3 after averaging 21.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in splitting games with Volunteer State (11/29/13) and No. 2 Indian Hills (11/30/13).

Stephen then transferred and spent two seasons at Kansas State (2014-16), playing in 62 of 65 games with 29 starts. Hurt scored 334 points (5.4 ppg.) in his K-State career on 42.3 percent shooting, including 30 percent from 3-point range, with 227 rebounds (3.7 rpg.), 34 assists (0.5 apg.), 23 steals (0.4 spg.) and 19 blocks (0.3 bpg.) in 1,020 minutes (16.5 mpg.). He showed growth from his junior to senior seasons, increasing his scoring (4.2 to 6.4 ppg.) and rebounding averages (2.8 to 4.4 rpg.), while upping his minutes from 13.4 to 19.2 per game. In all, Hurt scored more than 700 points (678) in his Division I college career (92 games/51 starts) on 47 percent shooting to go with 462 rebounds, 63 assists, and 35 blocks.

After graduating from Kansas State University, Hurt has had a 6-year pro career overseas with stops in Japan, Turkey, Qatar, Bahrain, and Slovenia. He is currently overseas playing.

 

Victoria Simmons - Cross Country

Victoria Simmons is a 2017 graduate of Siegel. She ran cross country and track for the Stars for 4 years.  Victoria had a renowned high school career at Siegel. She was a three-time All-State cross-country runner in 2014, 2015, and 2016. She was a two-time cross country Regional Champion in 2015 and 2016 and two-time All State 3200m runner in track in 2016 and 2017

After graduating from Siegel, Victoria attended the University of Mississippi where she competed as a student athlete all 4 years on the cross country and track team.  She had an impressive career as a Rebel earning NCAA South All-Region for Cross Country 2021, All SEC Second Team for Cross Country in 2019 and 2021, recognized as a part of Top-15 NCAA National’s placing team in 2021 (school record at the time), 6th in SEC Outdoor 10k 2021, SEC Academic Honor Roll, and USTFCCAA all Academic awards.

She graduated from Ole Miss in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, and from University of Mississippi Medical Center with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2022. Victoria is in the process of relocating to College Station, TX to be a Newborn Nursery Nurse.

Victoria remembers competing at the TSSAA state cross country meet at Steeplechase in Nashville and making the podium (top 15) for the first time, and any bus ride to Cedars of Lebanon for practice with her teammates.

 

Donovan Whitmore - Track & Field

Donovan Whitmore is a 2017 graduate of Siegel. He played basketball and ran track in his years as a Star. As a senior, Donovan won the TSSAA 200m State Championship and finished second in the 100m after a tie in the finals.  He also had a prolific 4 x 100 season in which the team did very well.

After leaving Siegel, Donovan attended Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas on a track scholarship.  He achieved All-American honors both years with his twin brother Denilson.  He helped the 4×400 and 4×100 relay teams set school records in both races. In the 2018 NJCAA, championship his 4×400 team broke their own school record of 3 minutes, 14.42 seconds. After leaving Hutchinson Community College, Donovan attended Brescia University in Owensboro, Kentucky.

Donovan is currently single with no children and works for an international company in logistics and supply.

 

2016 Siegel Baseball Team

The 2016 Siegel Baseball Team finished the 2016 season with a record of 34-9 and TSSAA State Champions.  The Stars took one of the most challenging paths to their first state title appearance after dropping their opener to Summit. Siegel won the losers bracket game over Collierville 6-5 and crushed Sevier County 10-0 later that evening.  That brought back-to-back games against Summit. The Stars took both of those games to advance to their first state championship game.  In the championship game, Siegel scored 9 runs in the first 4 innings and held off a tough Arlington team to win 9-8.

2017 Cross Country Team

The 2017 Boys Cross Country team finished 2nd in the Region 4AAA Cross Country Championship, but that only fueled them for the TSSAA Championship race.  The Stars won the TSSAA State Cross Country meet finishing ahead of favorites Oakland and Knox Cathloic by 136 and 56 points. Siegel ran a 1:23:27.64 for a team average of 16:41.53. The Stars had two top 10 finishes that day with Dawson Reed finishing 6th with a 16:09.32, and Tucker Moss finishing with a 16:23.01.
