Siegel Athletic Hall of Fame Class 2023

The Siegel High School Hall of Fame was created to honor: Those individuals who have excelled as athletes while students at Siegel High. Those individuals who have excelled as coaches while at Siegel High. Those individuals or staff members who have been ardent supporters of the Siegel High School athletic program. Those very special teams that have performed extraordinarily well bringing pride to the school and the community.

    Siegel High School is proud to announce our Siegel Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2023.  The hall of fame banquet and ceremony will be held on Wednesday, September 6 at 6:00 in the main gym.  This event is open to the public and tickets can be purchased by clicking here.

    This years inductees include:

    Tori Hawkins - Soccer

    Tori Hawkins was a 2012 Siegel High School graduate. During her time at Siegel, she was a member of the women’s soccer team for four years under Coach Eric Shelton and ran track her last two years at Siegel. She started all four years on the women’s soccer team, including the 2008 3A state championship team that finished 17-4-1 (7-0). Her individual accolades in high school include: Leading her team in goals and assist her last 3 years, 2010 and 2011 All-State First Team, Daily News Journal Soccer MVP, two time Golden Boot winner, All-District 1st and 2nd team, All-Region and District Offensive Player of the year her junior  and senior years,  Tennessean All-Midstate First Team her junior and senior years, participated in the 2011 East-West All-Star game, and chosen as a 2012 ESPNHS All-Tennessee All-Star. During her two-year track career, she was picked as the 2010 District Newcomer of the Year and was a member of the 2012 State Championship 4x400-meter relay team.

    On top of all her athletic accomplishments, Tori graduated Siegel as her class Valedictorian and participated in National Honor

    Society, Beta Club, Student Council, Excalibur, Key Club and Adventure Club. When asked what her favorite memory from Siegel was, Tori stated, “by far the best memory was winning state in 2008.”

    After graduating Siegel, Tori went on to be a four-year starter at Middle Tennessee State University. Her senior season she led her team goals and assist, was ranked as the fourth-highest single season average in MTSU history in shots per game and finished her career tied for fifth all-time in games started (78), tied for fifth in assists (18), and ninth in shots (162). She was named the Conference USA All-Tournament Team, Second Team C-USA Academic All-Conference as well as a C-USA Academic Medal Winner.

    During her time at MTSU she earned her Bachelor of Science in Aerospace and continued to get her Master’s degree in Unmanned and Autonomous Systems Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. From there, she went on to work at NASA Armstrong as a test engineer on experimental aircrafts. She is currently working at Dynetics as Lead Systems Engineer in the Space Division in Huntsville, Alabama. One of the aircrafts she worked on now sits in the California Science Center (Prandtl Wing) and have been published twice for works contributing to the aerospace and systems engineering fields.

     

    Christian Salter - Wrestling

                Christian Salter graduated from Siegel High School in 2018. During his time at Siegel, Christian set and still holds many of the school records for wrestling under Coach Lee Ramsey. Those records include most wins (154), most pins (87), most team points (818), most takedowns (342), and most near-fall points (404). As well as the school records, Christian had many others accolades which include: Siegel’s first state champion with a record of 37-1 (2018), Siegel’s first two time medalist/finalist (2017-2018), Siegel’s first three time region champion, four time region medalist, was on the state duals team, district and region duals champion (2015) runner-up (2016), and finished ranked 182 in the nation. Outside of Siegel, Christian competed with the Puerto Rican Jr. National Team, was a member of the TN USA wrestling team winning freestyle twice and the Greco-Roman championship. In 2016 he was the US Representative in Germany Exchange finishing with a record of 3-1.

    Christian then went on to attend Gardner-Webb in 2018-2019 where he went 1-9 on the season with all matches taking place at 184 pounds. During his time, he also went 1-4 in duel matches. He had one take down and five escapes throughout that season.

    After his time at Gardner-Webb, Christian started working at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office as a Patrol Deputy.

     

    Carter Watson - Baseball

    Carter Watson graduated from Siegel High School in 2010. During his time at Siegel Carter was a four-year varsity pitcher for the baseball team with an overall record of 24-6 with 264 strikeouts under Coach Craig Reavis. His best season was his senior year when he went 10-2 on the mound and fanned 96 baters. Carter was a four-time all-district and three-time all-region honoree as well as a two-time all-state honoree. He was named by his team the pitcher of the year in both 2008 and 2010. He was also the recipient of the Hinkle and Mincey Athletic Scholarship Endowment as well as the Hodge Athletic Scholarship. When asked what his favorite memory at Siegel High School was, Carter answered, “the great faculty and staff.”

    Upon graduating from Siegel, Carter turned down offers from LSU, Clemson, and Vanderbilt before committing to The University of Tennessee for baseball. When arriving at UT, Carter started off his rookie season leading the Vols in victories with a record of 5-3 in 23 total appearances, two of those included starting. He had a 5.29 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 32.1 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .281 batting average. While at UT, Carter majored in Sports Management

    Carter is now working at Averitt Express and is married to Dakota Watson. They have two children together, Livi (5) and Breck Watson (1).

     

    Cedric Williams - Basketball

                Cedrick Williams graduated from Siegel High School in 2014. During his time at Siegel Cedrick was a four-year member of for basketball team coached by Ben Dotson. During his time at Siegel High School, he was voted district 7-AAA MVP, averaged 13.5 points and 10.7 rebounds his senior season, averaged 14.1 points per game and 9.8 rebounds in tournament play his senior season, recorded 117 blocks his last season, and voted to the District 7-AAA All-Tournament Team and Region 4-AAA All-Region tournament teams.

    After graduating from Siegel Cedric went on to play college basketball at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Upon arriving at Wilmington, Cedric made an instant impact playing in all 31 games as a freshman and starting in 25. During his freshman campaign, he led the team with 43 blocks, ranked 6th in scoring and 2nd in rebounding. During his sophomore season he played in 30 games starting in 21. He was the 4th leading scorer, lead his team in double-doubles, and matched the school record with 6 blocks in one game. Cedric’s junior year was a breakout year. He was named the MVP for that season, played and started in all 30 games, lead the team in scoring (11.5), rebounding (6.6.), and blocks (46). He led the team with 18 points and 9 rebounds against 19th ranked North Carolina, posted the first double-double of the season, scored a career-high 26 points, made a game saving block against ECU, paced the team in 15 statistical categories, and led the team in scoring in 13 games and rebounding in 17 games. In his final season at Wilmington, Cedric appeared in all 32 games, led the team with 41 blocked shots, had a season-high 14 rebounds in one game, made his 100th collegiate appearance, had a season-high 23 points and put up 6 points and pulled 8 rebounds against number 4 ranked Louisville. While at UNC Wilmington, Cedric majored in Computer Science.

     

    Lee Ramsey - Wrestling Coach

                Lee Ramsey was the Siegel High Wrestling coach from 2004-2018 and taught History. During his time at Siegel Coach Ramsey set the precedent for coaches that follow him. He holds the record for most dual wins, most state dual appearances, most individual state medalist, and most individual state qualifiers. He coached Siegel’s first State Champion (Christian Salter), had 8 state medalist, 13 region champions, 89 state qualifiers, 2 state dual appearances, 1 region dual champion, region dual runner-up, 2 district dual champions, and 3 district dual runners-up. He was named Coach of the year by the Middle Tennessee Wrestling Coaches Association (2014-2015), TSSAA Region IV Coach of the Year (2008-2009 & 2014-2015), Daily News Journal Coach of the Year (2009-2010 & 2014-2015). Outside of his athletic accomplishments at Siegel, Coach Ramsey was voted Siegel Teacher of the Year

    Before his time at Siegel, Coach Ramsey attended undergrad at Middle Tennessee State University from 1998-2003. During his time at MTSU he was a member of the football team, earned Athletic Academic Honor Roll and was a member of Phi Alpha Theta (History Honors Society). Upon graduating from MTSU, Coach Ramsey went on to earn his Master’s degree at Carson Newman and his Educational Specialist Degree (EDS) from MTSU.

    Coach Ramsey is married to Alexis Ramsey and served as an Assistant Principal at Rockvale High School after leaving Siegel. He is now serving at central office as the current Social Studies Specialist for Rutherford County Schools.

     

    Rick Hardesty - Contributor

    Rick Hardesty has been a long-time supporter of Siegel Athletics.  He attended Missouri State University from 1980-1984 where he played baseball for the Bears. Rick is a 25-year employee at Lewis Brothers. Bakery where he is currently the Vice President and General Manager. Rick has continually given to Siegel High School with his time and donations of products from Lewis Brothers Bakery.

    Rick and his wife Mary Margaret have 2 children, Nick (27) and Alexandra (23). Nick and Alexandra are both graduates of Siegel. Rick’s fondest memory of Siegel was watching their children thrive at this outstanding School.
